Is Sleep Dentistry A Wise Choice?
Are you looking for sleep dentistry in Melbourne? Are you anxious, or nervous about having dental treatment done? Do you need to have multiple procedures or lengthy procedures performed such as wisdom teeth removal, All-on-4 implants or lots of fillings? Or would you simply prefer to sleep through your next dental appointment? Would you like to have no numbness when you wake up? If you answered yes to any of these questions, having dentistry while you sleep by Coburg Dental Group is the ideal choice for you.
Over 20% of the population has some level of anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. For some of them, the fear factor is so great that it forces them to neglect their dental needs.
We can do all aspects of dental treatment in one visit while you sleep. Should you need fillings, a cleaning, dental implants, bone grafting, extractions, crowns, veneers, a smile enhancement, or an extensive full mouth restoration such as All-On-4 implants, we offer real sedation dentistry or general anaesthetics, that will take away your anxiety and will make your dental experience a pleasure! You can literally wake up with a new smile.
Sleep dentistry is very safe and effective. We have been doing sleep dentistry at Coburg Dental Group for over 50 years. You can sleep through your entire procedure and most wake up feeling refreshed, or at worst, a little groggy. You can have a healthy, beautiful new smile without remembering a thing about your appointment!
So how does dentistry while you sleep work?
Firstly, you have a consultation with our anaesthetist who will explain everything to you prior to going to sleep. If you have a complex medical situation or have some particular concerns, we can also organize a pre-anaesthetic Telehealth consultation with the anaesthetist to answer all of our questions. (Fees apply for this consultation). Depending on the patient’s needs, an intravenous line is established on the back of the hand or a face mask is placed over the nose and mouth to start the anaesthetic. You are then given a precisely controlled amount of anaesthetic to maintain your sleep for the duration of the treatment time. Some of the medications we use would only last a few minutes so the drip feed of the medication maintains a steady state of sleep. When your dental work is completed, the medication is turned off and after just a few minutes you wake up.
Dr Jeffrey Kestenberg is one of the most experienced sleep dentists in Sleep Dentistry Melbourne. His team includes a medically qualified specialist anaesthetist and anaesthetic nurse.
In addition to dentistry while you sleep, we offer other forms of sedation, including sedative pills to be taken orally or a vapour which we call “the green whistle”. We can tell you more about these options at your first consultation. Our main priority is your comfort. We want all of our patients to be free from anxiety, stress, and fear throughout their appointment.
